Which students should be tested?
The procedure for selecting students for testing will remain the same this year as it was last year. If you need to train additional proctors, please let me know. I will work with you to get the proctors trained prior to testing. We will be setting up training opportunities for staff members who wish to receive training in interpreting MAP reports. This training will take place after MAP testing concludes in October.
6th Grade
All 6th grade students will be administered the Reading, Mathematics, and Language Usage subtests with goals during the Fall and Spring test sessions. All 6th grade students will participate in the reading subtest without goals during the winter test sessions. Having three reading data points will afford the District the opportunity to complete both midyear and end-of-year gains analysis reports at the District, school, and classroom levels to note progress toward the implementation of the Gradual Release of Responsibility (GRR) literacy framework in 6th grade.
7th and 8th Grade
Only those students without a spring 2012 score will be required to take the specified subtest with goals during the fall testing session. We will assist buildings in noting which students are in need of a current MAP assessment for the fall testing session. All 7th and 8th grade students will participate in the Reading, Mathematics, and Language Usage subtests with goals during the spring testing session. Any student participating in an intervention course such as READ 180, System 44, Reading 7/8, or Math Double Block will need to take the specified subtest associated with the content of the intervention course during the winter testing sessions. Doing so will afford the District the opportunity to complete both midyear and end-of-year gains analysis reports using MAP data at the District, school and classroom levels for all intervention courses at the middle school level. We will assist buildings in noting which students are in need of a winter MAP test.
