Institute for the Fine Arts
The Green Bay Area Public School District has been named a 2015 Best Community for Music Education! Learn more here.
Several serious research studies have shown the positive impact the arts have on academic success. Creativity, imagination, and innovation are highly desired skills in many professional and technical career fields.
The Green Bay East High School Institute for the Fine Arts was launched in the 2011-2012 school year. For the first stage of a gradual roll-out, students can focus their studies in piano, guitar, strings, wind and brass instruments, and choral music, with an emphasis on classical music. The second stage of the roll out occurred during the 2013-14 school year, adding visual arts to the fields of study.
Fine Arts Institute students will study under master teachers and artists, receive private instruction, develop an artistic portfolio, and earn academic credit for their private and independent study in the arts.
The student portfolio will include:
• Schedule of lessons
• Practice log
• Programs from performances
• DVD of performances to be judged by a select jury
• List of works studied
• Instructor assessments
• Reflection narrative
Students are required to take 14 lessons for 30 minutes each per semester from professionals in their field of music as part of the community apprenticeship. Full and partial scholarships from private donations will be available to students unable to afford the cost of lessons.
Student applications will be reviewed by a committee composed of a community artist, administrator, and fine arts coordinator. If more students meet the requirements than space is available, a lottery will be used to determine student selection.

Do you have a question or want to know more about how you can support the institute? Call East High School at 448-2090 or e-mail Lucinda Roberts, fine arts coordinator.

 Meet the Coordinator

Lucinda Roberts
Fine Arts Coordinator
(920) 448-2090
As fine arts coordinator for East High School's Fine Arts Institute, I am thrilled to be part of our student's artistic journeys, whether they focus in music, visual arts, dance or theatre! Encouraging our students to explore their art on a deeper level, helping them to commit to developing their talents and to pursue further education in the arts is an endeavor I am honored to be included in. It is particularly exciting as our community helps us develop the East Fine Arts Institute into a premier performing arts high school in northeast Wisconsin! We invite you to join us!
