Notice of School Board Vacancy and Request for Letters of Interest from Electors Who Wish to be Considered for Appointment to Fill the Vacancy

The electors of the Green Bay Area Public School District are hereby given notice that, as of October 17, 2017, there is a vacancy in the office of School Board Member.  The office was formerly held by Julie Jansch.

Under state law, the vacancy will be filled by appointment by the remaining members of the School Board.  The person who is appointed to fill the vacancy:

  1. Must be a resident and elector of the Green Bay Area Public School District who is eligible under state law to hold the office of School Board Member in the District; and
  2. Will serve as an appointee until April 22, 2018.

Following the conclusion of the appointee’s term of office (April 22, 2018), it is expected that an elected successor (who shall be elected at the April 3, 2018 spring election) will assume office on April 23, 2018.

Any eligible elector who wishes to be considered for possible appointment to the School Board may submit a letter of interest as follows:

  1. All letters of interest shall be directed to the attention of Sandra Heller, Board Secretary.
  2. To ensure consideration, the letter of interest must be received in the school district’s main, administrative office located at 200 S. Broadway, by no later than 12:00 p.m. on Monday, October 16, 2017.
  3. Letters of interest may be hand delivered to the office, sent by U.S. Mail, or submitted to the Board Secretary via email using the following email address:  sjheller@gbaps.org.
  4. It is the sole responsibility of the individual submitting a letter of interest to ensure that the letter has been received.  Accordingly, he/she may wish to contact the office at (920) 448-2101 to confirm that the Board Secretary is in receipt of the letter.  
  5. The elector who is submitting the letter of interest shall identify his/her name, residential address, telephone number and email address.  The preferred contact information should be identified.  The letter should also minimally address why the individual wants to serve on the Board and the qualities the individual will bring to the Board that will enhance the Board’s decision making.

Individuals submitting letters of interest should be aware that, unless otherwise directed or permitted under Wisconsin Stats. §17.275, 19.36(7), or Subchapter II of Chapter 19, their submissions (including name and residential address) are generally subject to inspection or copying in response to requests submitted under Wisconsin Stats. §19.35(1).

Following the deadline for receipt of letters of interest, the Board intends to interview one or more individuals on Wednesday, November 1, 2017, beginning at 6:00 p.m. who have been identified as potential appointees.  Based on Wisconsin Stats. §17.26, the interviews will be in open session.  The School Board then intends to attempt to fill the vacancy from the pool of interviewees.
