Green Bay Area Public Schools and the Green Bay Packers History
The Green Bay Area Public School District and the Green Bay Packers have a long-standing connection, starting back in 1919 when East High School alumnus Earl 'Curly' Lambeau founded the team.
Green Bay Packers Historian and East High School graduate Cliff Christl attributes the start and success of the Green Bay Packers franchise to the East and West High School football rivalry, which dates back to the 1800s and made many football fans in the Green Bay community. The early rosters of the Green Bay Packers were filled with Green Bay East and West High alumni, including Curly Lambeau, Arnie Herber and more.
The Packers also played at historic City Stadium, which was built as a joint venture between the City of Green Bay and the school district. While City Stadium was mainly built for East and West High School football, it was the home of the Green Bay Packers from 1925 - 1956.
Many alumni of Green Bay Area Public Schools have gone on to play or work for the NFL, with the Green Bay Packers and several other franchises.
