Multilingual Learners

Valuing cultural and linguistic diversity ~ Creating dynamic pathways ~ Shaping today's global leaders for the future

Mission

Our mission is to enrich the linguistic and academic development of English Learners by fostering collective responsibility for the development of multilingual and culturally competent students.

Vision

We envision a learning community where all students are prepared to successfully compete, connect, and collaborate in a linguistically and culturally diverse world.

Values

We believe all students:

• have the right to equitable access to culturally relevant teaching and learning
• are language learners and all teachers are language teachers
• deserve to attend schools where language diversity and diverse cultural backgrounds are respected
• benefit from a shared partnership between home, school, and community
• bring diverse experiences that foster an exchange of culture knowledge
• will be better prepared to thrive in a global community by acquiring English and one, or more, additional languages.

English as a Second Language (ESL) Program

Dual Language Program

Eligibility for the Multilingual Learner (ML) program is based on responses to the Wisconsin Home Language Survey and results of the WIDA Screener, a standardized English language proficiency assessment.

Participation is voluntary and requires parent or guardian permission. Families have the right to accept or decline any ML services.

Students are assessed annually to measure their English language progress. Exit from the program is based on assessment results and classroom performance.

Green Bay Area Public School District's curriculum follows grade-level state content standards and the WIDA English Language Development Standards.
