Immunizations

Did you know immunizations are a school requirement? Required immunizations may be waived for health, religious, or personal conviction reasons. A waiver must be signed and on file in the school office if you choose not to have your child immunized.
 

K-5th Grade 7th-12th Grade
5 doses of DtaP 5 doses of DtaP
4 doses of Polio (IPV) 4 doses of Polio (IPV)
3 doses of Hep B 3 doses of Hep B
2 doses of Varicella 2 doses of Varicella
  2 doses of MMR
  1 dose of Tdap
  MenACWY 7th grade, 2nd dose 12th grade

The following diseases are prevented by these required immunizations.

Chicken Pox Varicella Infected blisters, bleeding disorders, encephalitis (brain swelling), pneumonia (infection in the lungs)
Diphtheria Dtap Swelling of the heart muscle, heart failure, coma, paralysi
Hepatitis B Hep B Chronic (long lasting) liver infection, joint pain kidney, pancreatic and blood disorders
Measles, mumps and rubella MMR Encephalitis (brain swelling), pneumonia (lung infection), meningitis, deafness
Pertussis (whooping cough) Dtap Pneumonia (lung infection)
Polio IPV Paralysis
Tetanus Dtap Broken bones, breathing with difficulty
Meningococcal MenACWY Protects against meningitis (brain infection)

A flu shot is highly recommended in the fall to reduce the chance of your child getting the seasonal respiratory flu and spreading it to others. 

Where to go to get immunizations:

  • If you have insurance through your work: make an appointment with your doctor 
  • If you have badger care (also called forward health, state insurance):make an appointment with your doctor or make an appointment at the Brown County Health Department or NEW community clinic.
  • If you have no insurance: make an appointment with the Brown County Health Department. 
  • The Brown County Health Department offers free immunizations to children ages 0-18 who have Badger Care or who do not have insurance. MUST MAKE AN APPOINTMENT
