April 2025 Update

King Elementary and Lombardi Middle School Clean Energy Award

The Green Bay Area Public School District was recently honored with a 2024 Clean Energy Honor Roll award for its clean energy efforts by RENEW Wisconsin. The organization recognized the District's clean energy impact thanks to solar projects at Lombardi Middle School and King Elementary School.

The Green Bay Area Public School District's solar projects, installed by McKinstry, demonstrate how clean energy solutions can empower schools to save money, reduce environmental impact, and foster educational opportunities. The GBAPS clean energy initiative resulted in several notable achievements for the district, specifically at Lombardi Middle School and King Elementary School. The installation of two rooftop solar PV arrays will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 588,150 pounds of CO2e annually and lower energy costs by $29,400 annually. The school district also created STEM-focused learning opportunities for students, integrating renewable energy data into the curriculum to inspire the next generation of sustainability leaders.

The solar panels, which were completed thanks to community support of the November 2022 referendum, offset nearly 50% of the annual electrical energy load at Lombardi, and nearly 100% of the annual electrical energy load at King.

February 2025 Update

Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFB) in School Zones

Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFB) with high visibility crosswalks have been installed at 48 locations across the City of Green Bay. This project was completed in partnership with the City of Green Bay’s American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding and November
2022 Referendum dollars. RRFBs are proven to enhance pedestrian safety by reducing crashes by up to 47% and increasing motorist
yielding rates by up to 98%.

The RRFB project follows the work of the Safe Walk & Bike Plan, which was a joint effort between the Green Bay Area Public School District and the City of Green Bay. The purpose of the initiative is to empower adults and children of all ability levels throughout Green Bay to make walking and biking part of their daily routines and enable them to get to school and other local destinations in a safe and equitable way. RRFB locations were selected based on proximity to schools, crash data, roadway information, and community feedback.

The Green Bay Area Public School District is proud to have partnered with the City of Green Bay to make our community safer for all pedestrians, but especially for our students who walk to and from school each day.

Phase two of implementation will involve the completion of several more enhanced crosswalks, as well as the installation of speed feedback signs in and around school zones within the community.

January 2025 Update

Preble High School Auditorium Update

We're seeing progress at Preble High School thanks to the November 2022 Referendum! Renovations of the auditorium are coming along with new seats and new carpeting added. New technology was implemented to give both the students and audience the best experience. The project in its entirely updated and/or renovated the following:

Stage floor refinish
Sound and lighting booth
Chairlift to the upper control booth
Above ceiling catwalks
Audience seating
Lighted aisle strips
Acoustic wall finishes
Orchestra pit railing, floor & wall finishes

December 2024 Update

West High School Auditorium Update

We're seeing progress at Green Bay West High School thanks to the November 2022 Referendum! Renovations of the auditorium are coming along with new seats and new carpeting going in. Historic elements continue to be preserved as new technology is implemented to give both the students and audience the best experience. The project in its entirely updated and/or renovated the following:

Microphones & sound system
Stage rigging, curtains
Stage lighting
Motorized light hoists
New LED house lighting
Above ceiling catwalks
New seating
Lighted aisle strips
New floor finishes
Complete paint/plaster renovation of the 1927 walls and ceilings
Balcony painted with International Baccalaureate (IB) subject group symbols
Climate controlled room for piano storage

November 2024 Update

Preble High Commons and Auditorium Update

We're seeing progress at Green Bay Preble High School thanks to the November 2022 Referendum! Renovations of the auditorium continue, as well as the addition to the Preble commons and second floor classrooms. Here's a sneak peak at the updates.

Danz Park Playground Completed

Green Bay Area Public Schools and City of Green Bay leaders gathered with students and staff to celebrate the new ADA compliant and inclusive playground at Danz Elementary School on November 8, 2024. Danz Elementary Principal Kelly Agen said the anticipation of the new playground has students stopping her in the hallway to share their gratitude for the new playground.

Danz playground is the fifth ADA-compliant and inclusive playground installed in the Green Bay Area Public School District and the third for the City of Green Bay parks system. The project was made possible thanks to community support of the November 2022 referendum and through City of Green Bay ARPA funds.

October 2024 Update

Sullivan Park Playground Completed

Green Bay Area Public Schools and City of Green Bay leaders gathered with students, staff, and families to celebrate the new ADA-compliant and inclusive playground at Sullivan Elementary School on October 25, 2024. Sullivan Principal Tanya Fenner said this new space provides an area where all children can play together in a welcoming environment.

Sullivan Park is the fourth ADA-compliant and inclusive playground installed in the Green Bay Area Public School District and the second for the City of Green Bay parks system. The project was made possible thanks to community support of the November 2022 referendum and through City of Green Bay ARPA funds.

September 2024 Update

Green Bay West High School Stadium Debut

Green Bay West High School unveiled its newly renovated stadium for the Homecoming football game on September 20, 2024. See the stadium, the marching band and the fans in this video. The video on the right show a renovation and construction timeline of the stadium.

Green Bay West High School Weight Room Reveal

The new Green Bay West High School weight room is here! Students started using the space in mid-September and the reactions speak for themselves. Check out the student reactions and a quick tour of the space.

August 2024 Update

Edison Middle School Auditorium Update

With a new coat of paint on the walls and new seats in, the Edison Middle School auditorium is looking sharp! Click on the photos below to view a larger version.

Aldo Leopold Community School Playground Completed

The playground is complete! The Green Bay Area Public School District’s Aldo Leopold Community School ADA compliant and inclusive playground is the third in the District, joining Baird and Jackson Elementary Schools. This playground was designed with help from Aldo Leopold students.

A ribbon cutting will be held on August 21, 2024 at 4 p.m. to celebrate with students, families and staff.

West High School Stadium Updates

Turf has been installed at the stadium, as construction continues on the restrooms and concession area. We can't wait to see our students out on the field later this fall! It is anticipated that the stadium construction will have progressed to allow West High School to host its homecoming game on September 20th. The goal is to have the restrooms and concession area completed at that time.

July 2024 Update

Baird Elementary ADA Compliant Playground

Baird Elementary School saw a major upgrade this summer, thanks to the 2022 Referendum! The previous playground was moved from the old Baird Elementary school site to the new Baird Elementary School back in 2019. This new replacement playground has more equipment and is ADA compliant, with a turf base, meeting the needs of more of our students! This project and many others were made possible thanks to community support of the 2022 Referendum.

Lombardi Middle School and King Elementary School LED Lighting and Solar Panels

Lombardi Middle School and King Elementary School are seeing some updates! Work is currently being done at both schools to upgrade LED lighting. Ceiling grid, ceiling tiles, and HVAC supply diffusers were replaced as necessary to accommodate the new LED lighting. On the exterior, solar panels are being added to both roofs for additional energy efficiency. All of this work is thanks to community support of the 2022 referendum. Preble High School Commons and Stadium Updates

Work is well under way on the Green Bay Preble High School commons and classroom addition. Plus, the stadium renovations are nearly complete. The grandstand, concession stand, and bathrooms are nearly ready for the upcoming fall sports season. Stadium upgrades and the commons renovation at Preble High School are just a few of many projects to come from the November 2022 Referendum.

Aldo Leopold Community School Playground

We're seeing big changes at Aldo Leopold Community School! Crews are hard at work on a new playground, thanks to community support of the 2022 referendum. We're excited to see students enjoying the new playground this fall!

June 2024 Update

East Weight Room and Tennis Courts

Progress is being made on the new weight room and fitness center at Green Bay East High School! The tennis courts are also seeing a facelift.

Preble Commons and Classroom Addition

May 2024 Update

Southwest Baseball and Softball Complex Ribbon Cutting

Students, staff and community members celebrated the new Baseball and Softball Complex at Southwest High School with a ribbon cutting on May 2, 2024.

April 2024 Update

West Del Marcelle Stadium Groundbreaking

Students, community members and local officials gathered on April 29, 2024, to break ground on the Del Marcelle Stadium renovations at West High School. The renovations include new synthetic turf, a practice field, restrooms, concession stands, grandstand, press box, scoreboard, storage shed, sound system, and lighting.

The project is set to be complete for the 2024-2025 fall sports season.

Aldo Playground Renderings

Renderings of the future playground at Aldo Leopold Community School have been created, and we're now getting a glimpse into what the playground may look like upon completion.

Southwest Baseball and Softball Complex

Baseball and Softball diamonds are officially in use at Southwest High School! Southwest High School varsity baseball coach Matt Rukamp wants to thank the greater Green Bay community for supporting the 2022 Referendum.

Southwest Baseball played East/West while Southwest Softball played Pulaski High School on April 9, 2024.

Southwest Updates

Thanks to the 2022 Referendum, Southwest High School is seeing a roofing project, updated tennis courts, asphalt replacement at the stadium entrance, and the new baseball and softball diamonds.

March 2024 Update

East Weight Room Progress

Progress is being made on the new weight room and fitness center at Green Bay East High School! Piles are in the ground to support the new space. Work is also being done regarding storm water at the high school.

February 2024 Update

West Weight Room Progress

The walls are up for the new weight room and wrestling space at West High School! This project broke ground back in November 2023.

Preble Grandstand

The new grandstand is in at Preble High School! Stadium updates will continue this winter at Preble, including a concession stand and bathroom, which is being added near the south parking lot.

West Weight Room Progress

After breaking ground back in November, progress is being made on the new weight room and wrestling space at Green Bay West High School! This project is one of many underway thanks to community support of the November 2022 Referendum.

Southwest Baseball and Softball Complex Progress

Southwest High School continues to see construction on the baseball and softball complex. The dugouts and an outbuilding for concessions/restrooms/press box have progressed.

Preble Grandstand Progress

The replacement of the grandstand at Preble High School's stadium is underway. The previous grandstand was removed to make way for a 2000+ seat grandstand and a new press box. The grandstand seats are currently in place. A concession stand and bathroom building will be added near the south parking lot. The track is also ready for spring, with all the lines and markings complete.

November 2023 Update

Southwest Baseball and Softball Complex Progress

Construction continues on new turf baseball and softball fields at Southwest High School. The foundation has been laid for the dugouts and the concessions/restrooms/press box building.

Preble Grandstand Progress

Replacement of the grandstand at Preble High School's stadium is underway. A 2000+ seat grandstand and a new press box will be constructed. A concession stand and bathroom building will be added near the south parking lot.

West Weight Room and Wrestling Groundbreaking

Students, staff and community stakeholders broke ground on the future West High School weight room and wrestling space on November 1, 2023. The weight room and wrestling space are one of several West High School projects to come from the November 2022 Referendum.

Preble Soccer Debut on New Turf Field

Green Bay Preble High School varsity soccer coach Chris Becker wants to thank the greater Green Bay community for supporting the 2022 Referendum and Preble stadium upgrades. Preble Soccer made its home debut on the new turf field at Preble High School on September 14.
