Role of the Teacher

  • Program Teachers often provide frequent direct instruction to DHH students in all or some subject areas
  • Itinerant teachers provide less frequent direct push-in or pull-out instruction to DHH students in some subject areas within their home schools
  • Consult with general education teachers and administrators
  • In-service and support teachers and other service providers who work with students with hearing loss
  • Serve as an advocate for students within their schools to ensure their hearing loss related needs are being addressed
  • Monitor auditory training and use of auditory equipment
  • Monitor language development of students with hearing loss
  • Consult with Educational Audiologist regarding current audiological information
  • Consult with IEP teams regarding needed specialized services, goals and/or classroom accommodations
  • Instruct students in self advocacy skills
  • Consult with families regarding child’s educational needs, home activities and other community supports
  • Serve as an IEP team member
