Role of the Teacher
- Program Teachers often provide frequent direct instruction to DHH students in all or some subject areas
- Itinerant teachers provide less frequent direct push-in or pull-out instruction to DHH students in some subject areas within their home schools
- Consult with general education teachers and administrators
- In-service and support teachers and other service providers who work with students with hearing loss
- Serve as an advocate for students within their schools to ensure their hearing loss related needs are being addressed
- Monitor auditory training and use of auditory equipment
- Monitor language development of students with hearing loss
- Consult with Educational Audiologist regarding current audiological information
- Consult with IEP teams regarding needed specialized services, goals and/or classroom accommodations
- Instruct students in self advocacy skills
- Consult with families regarding child’s educational needs, home activities and other community supports
- Serve as an IEP team member
