Staff and School Achievements

  • Congratulations to Danz Elementary School counselor Jen Brooks for being awarded the Family Service’s Excellence in Advocacy award.
  • Congratulations to Danz Elementary School School Counselor Jennifer Brooks who earned the 2023 Family Services Excellence in Advocacy award. Jennifer will be honored during the Excellence in Advocacy event on April 26th.
  • Congratulations to East High School teacher Scott Christy who is the 2nd place Met Award winner from the Inaugural Manufacturing, Engineering and Technology (MET) Awards Program. The program recognizes outstanding Wisconsin high school and middle school teachers who are committed to advancing manufacturing, engineering and technology principles in their classrooms.   • Congratulations to East High School's Beth Wetzel Gracyalny and the Green Bay School District's Gay-Straight Alliance (a school club dedicated to promoting acceptance), for being selected by UW-Green Bay's 2023 Philanthropy Class as a finalist and will receive a $10,000 grant.
  • The East High School Landscape Management students and the East FFA grew and harvested their own lettuce to serve in the East cafeteria. Congrats to the East students and agriscience teacher Zachary Markhardt. 
  • Congratulations to East High School for earning the College Board’s AP Computer Science Female Diversity Award for expanding young women’s access to AP Computer Science Principles (CSP). This award acknowledges schools for their work toward equal gender representation during the 2021-22 school year. East is one of only 832 schools to be recognized for achieving this important result in AP CSP.
  • Congratulations to East High School for earning the College Board's AP Computer Science Female Diversity Award for expanding young women's access to AP Computer Science Principles. Learn more.  
  • Congratulations to East High School educator Zachary Markhardt who was awarded funding from the Wisconsin Farm Bureau Foundation’s Agriculture in the Classroom program.
  • Thank you to Hart Family Coffee and Scooter's Coffee for their recognition of public schools and public school employees. East High School staff received a free tumbler, and Scooter's Coffee raised $392.00 for GBAPS by donating 10% of all sales from open to noon on September 6th. In addition, on September 7th they served 1,199 free drinks to school employees.
  • Congratulations to East High School's Maureen Tjoflat who was the recipient of this year's Doctors in Recital music education grant.
  • Congratulations to East High School for being awarded an $8,000 grant through The P&G Fund of the Greater Cincinnati Foundation for the Caring Closet. 
  • Congrats to the Food Service Department who received a $10,000 NFL Fuel Up to Play 60 Hometown Grant! The grant will fund portable milk cooler equipment for four of our elementary schools to help keep milk cold, and a new mobile grab-and-go breakfast station at West High School to provide additional nutritious breakfast opportunities for students. A big thanks to the Green Bay Packers, Dairy Farmers of Wisconsin and Wisconsin - Fuel Up to Play 60 who celebrated the grant at Elmore Elementary School on January 3. West High School Fuel Up to Play 60 members who attended Elmore Elementary were also in attendance. 
  • Green Bay Area Public School District nurse Diane Peterson was able to get Franklin Middle School and East High School certified as the District's first Heart Safe Schools.
  • Congratulations to Green Bay Schools Executive Director of Technology and Information Amy Jaeckel who is a Finalist for the 2023 Wisconsin ORBIE® Awards. Over 120 nominations were received, demonstrating the depth and breadth of technology leaders in Wisconsin-based organizations.  The slate of all 2023 ORBIE Finalists were featured Milwaukee Business Journal, and at wisconsin cio.org.
  • Congratulations to all our Green Bay Area Public School District Wello mini-grant recipients! In total, $7,029.36 was granted to 30 recipients and 22 schools. Click here to read about the grant winners and their projects.
  • Thank you to the Allouez Optimist Club of Green Bay for providing dictionaries to 3rd grade students at six Green Bay Area Public School District elementary schools. Optimist Club members along with coaches and players from Green Bay Phoenix Volleyball visited our schools to do a word-finding activity and deliver the dictionaries for students to take home.
  • Congratulations to Green Bay Schools Program Support Teacher Rachael Poppe who has been selected, the first in the Midwest, as the 2023-2024 National Education Association (NEA) Teacher Quality Fellow. She will support NEA members in their professional learning, expand knowledge and understanding of the larger education context, and participate and influence policy practices at the state and national level. Rachael plans to return to GBAPS schools the 2024-2025 school year.
  • Congratulations to the Green Bay Schools School & Community Relations Department for receiving an Award of Excellence - Best in Category 2022 Spectrum Award for its GBAPS Teacher Recruitment Social Media Campaign from the Wisconsin School Public Relations Association (WSPRA).
  • Congratulations to Green Bay Schools nurse, Bonnie Baranczyk, who was officially voted in as the Wisconsin Association of School Nurses (WASN) Board Treasurer. Bonnie has been the Interim Board Treasurer since June 2022. Bonnie was photographed with the Board of Directors (last row, far left) on Friday, April 28, 2023 at the WASN Conference, which took place at the Radisson Hotel & Conference Center in Green Bay.
  • Congratulations to Green Bay Schools Family Engagement Coordinator Ingrid Parker-Hill who was recognized as a Women of Influence in the New North Region and received the 2022 Difference Maker - Community Award. Read more here.
  • The Green Bay Area Public School District was presented with an award from Catholic Charities at the World Refugee Day Picnic in recognition of the District's efforts in welcoming and settling the Afghan evacuees.
  • Congratulations to Green Bay Area Public Schools Executive Director of Technology & Information Amy Sterckx who has been named an eSchool News K-12 Hero Award Program nominee! The Hero Awards recognize heroes who worked to transform education during the pandemic. Read more here.
  • Congratulations to EL teacher Megan Rudolph for receiving a scholarship from Management Women, Inc. to continue her educational journey to earn her Master of Education in Teaching English Learners Degree. She will graduate in August 2022.
  • Congratulations to Green Bay Public Schools School and Community Relations Specialist, Kristin Rozek, for earning a spot on NSPRA's 35 Under 35 list
  • Howe Elementary Community School was awarded a $3,000 Crime Prevention Grant to support ongoing programming for 3rd and 4th grade girls to participate in Girls on the Run. This program is led by Howe School Social Worker, Crystal Dubey, with the kind and generous support from the Crime Prevention Grant program. 
  • Congratulations to Diana Delbecchi, Green Bay Community Schools Coordinator at Howe Elementary Community School, who was named a 2022 Changemaker of the Year Finalist by the Wisconsin Public Education Network. Read more here.
  • Howe Elementary Community School had a few special guests who celebrated the teachers and scholars with a box full of school supplies for each and every classroom. Howe wants to give a huge shout-out to Dixon Ticonderoga, Kids In Need Foundation & super special guest De’Vondre Campbell. Read more here.
  • Congratulations to Jackson Elementary School School Counselor, Tammy Van Ess, who won the SOUP (Support of Urban Projects) grant from the Green Bay Area Chamber. All proceeds will go to benefit the Hunger Heroes Jaguar Den.
  • Jackson Elementary School held an "Our Change for Change" drive that raised $1476.34. Jackson donated $500.00 to their community partner Calvary Lutheran Church in return for their constant support of families and students at Jackson Elementary School. The rest will be used to benefit families at Jackson through the Hunger Heroes Pantry.
  • Congratulations to Mary McCabe and the Jefferson Head Start program for receiving a $1,500 grant from GLC Minerals Charitable Foundation, a fund of the Greater Green Bay Community Foundation! Funds will be used for the Parent Bucks program, programming for grandparents, and support for our families in emergency situations. 
  • Congratulations to John Dewey Academy of Learning instructor Beth Hohol who won the 101 WIXX Teacher of the Month! Ms. Beth started at JDAL six years ago as a paraprofessional and is now in her second year as a special education teacher.
  • Congratulations to Langlade Elementary School's Deaf and Hard of hearing teacher Amy Curran who presented at SOUP and was awarded a microgrant for Deaf Group. 
  • Lombardi Middle School staff participated in their school's annual Attitude of Gratitude project. Through their kind and generous actions, staff raised $300 dollars to provide Lombardi families with gift cards to a local grocery store for a Thanksgiving meal!
  • Congratulations to Martin Elementary School students who raised over $9,000 for the school's Read-a-Thon. Martin students read a total of 59,045 minutes.
  • Congratulations to Northeast Wisconsin School of Innovation teacher Shalee Schmutzler who was recognized as the NAREN Member of the Month and was awarded $250. Her nomination stated, “Behind the most successful initiatives at our school is Ms. Shalee’s diligent work… Ms. Shalee keeps our school afloat."
  • Congratulations to Northeast Wisconsin School of Innovation principal Jason Johnson for being recognized as the 2022 Career Pathway Administrator award winner for the NEW Manufacturing Alliance’s 11th annual “Excellence in Manufacturing/K-12 Partnerships Awards.” The Awards dinner will be held on October 25th at the Resch Expo in Green Bay.
  • Congratulations to Northeast Wisconsin School of Innovation Social Worker, Carlos Zuniga, for receiving the Ebiere Juliet Cole Community Award.
  • Congratulations to Kathleen Brusky, Family and Consumer Science teacher at Preble High School for receiving a grant of $1,750.00 from the National Restaurant Association to attend a professional development seminar in Dallas, Texas this July. 
  • Congratulations to Preble High School for being recognized as a Level III Advanced Placement Pacesetter School for impressive student AP access and excellence in AP exam scores in the State of Wisconsin during the 2020-2021 school year. The pacesetter award is always from the prior school year due to the time and effort that is required to coordinate released data from the College Board to the publicly accessible WISEDash website. 
  • Congratulations to Preble High School Director of Athletics & Activities/Associate Principal Dan Retzki who was elected to the WIAA Board of Control. Read more here.
  • Congratulations to Southwest High School teacher Jay Krings! Mr. Krings was honored last weekend as the Daughter's of the American Revolution Outstanding Teacher of American History!
  • Congratulations to Southwest High School Teacher Jason Krings who won the Jean Nicolet Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution's Outstanding History Teacher Award.
  • Congratulations to Southwest High School teacher John Sebranek on maintaining his National Board Certification.
  • Congratulations to Southwest High School Math Teacher McKenzie Waniger has been selected to receive a Management Women, INC Scholarship for the 2023-2024 school year. McKenzie will be acknowledged at the May 17th Management Women Scholarship Awards luncheon.
  • Altrusa International awarded a $3,753.00 grant to the Altrusa Club of Green Bay for their project “Building Reading Proficiency For Brighter Futures.” Tank Elementary School received a portion of this grant to help students in grades K-5 achieve this mission.
  • Congratulations to Washington Middle School for being granted $1,000 from the Greater Green Bay Community Foundation as a part of their School Spirit Endowment. The grant went toward purchasing two tubano drums and two sets of Zildjian Sound Reduction cymbals.
  • Congrats to Webster Elementary School's Todd Lowney for receiving a $700 grant from the School Spirit Educational Endowment for the Webster Wildcats: Writing for Our Future program! The money will be used to purchase organizers for the student-run post office, it will bring in an author for a Zoom meeting with students to coincide with the One Book One School project, and funds will purchase pencil grips for proper gripping for students and raised lined paper.
  • More than 30 students at West High School were given a new pair of shoes thanks to Aaron Jones' A&A All The Way Foundation. Several schools in the District have also received shoes through the foundation.

Student Academic Achievements

  • Congratulations to the three East High School students who competed in the HOSA state competition in the Dells. All 3 students placed in the top 5. Alexia Lindsley competed in medical spelling and placed 5th, David Ayala competed in the Healthy Lifestyle division and placed 3rd, Careli Navarro Castaneda competed in Home Health Aide and placed 1st. David and Careli now qualify to compete at the International Conference. 
  • Congratulations to the East High School Chapter of Future Business Leaders of America members who recently attended the Wisconsin FBLA State Leadership Conference at the KI Center. They competed in a variety of events for a chance to represent Wisconsin this summer in Atlanta at FBLA nationals: Anthony Muskovitz-Karl – 3rd place in Mobile App Development, and Isaac Munchoff and Tallon Baird– 2nd place in Network Design. Placing in the top 8 for their event and earning honorable mention are: Brisset Torres Alvarado - event finalist and placed 6th in Banking and Financial Management, Giovanny Rodriguez - 5th place in Computer Problem Solving and national team alternate, and ChaNtuj "Sunny" Lee - 8th place in Computer Problem Solving.
  • Congratulations to the following East High School Forensics team members that competed in the state competition in Madison: (Leif) Angelica Delfosse, Erick Brito Acevedo, and Jennifer Duarte Castillo took gold in Prose Reading, Zoe DiSalvo took silver in Prose Reading, and Rubi Guzman-Gonzalez took gold in Solo Acting Serious.
  • Congratulations to the following East High School students who participated in the 2023 SkillsUSA annual state skills and leadership conference: Ben Oana, Henry Hartshorn, and Colton Dean.
  • Congratulations to the East High School students who competed at Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) Regional Competitions at Gillett High School. This is East's 16th consecutive year of East FBLA members qualifying for state. Students who placed in the top 3 for their event and qualified for FBLA State include:1st place - Tallon Baird and Isaac Munchoff (Network Design); 2nd place - Giovanny Rodriguez (Computer Problem Solving); 3rd place - Brisset Torres Alvarado (Banking and Financial Systems).
  • Congrats to East High School FBLA members Madeline Eckberg and Lydia Munchoff for being in the top ten finishers at the FBLA National Leadership Conference. Madeline received recognition at the FBLA Awards of Excellence Show and brought home the 9th place trophy in the Insurance and Risk Management event. Lydia finished 6th in the Personal Finance event.
  • Congratulations to East High School graduate Peter Kiernan who was one of 16 graduating high school seniors selected from across Wisconsin to receive a $750 scholarship from Cellcom. 
  • Congratulations to East High School's Emilio DeJesus who received the Burlsworth Character Award.
  • Congratulations to Eisenhower Elementary School 4th grader Alincin Lor who was accepted to the National Youth Leadership Forum: Pathways to STEM.
  • Congratulations to the Franklin Middle School girl's basketball program which received a $4,000 donation from Sofidel. Sofidel also visited the school and had dinner catered by Taste of the South. Serena Weledji shared some advice as an Ivy League player with the students. 
  • Congratulations to the East High School Academic Decathlon team for taking 3rd place at the regional competition at UWGB. 
  • Congratulations to Howe Elementary Community School 5th graders Nevaeh Hunt, Gabby Whitaker, Joaquinn Fikes, Deven Harper, Ali Washington, Nyla Knowles, Yaneli Villanueva Torres, and Peyton Murray for winning the Altrusa International Club of Green Bay 5th grade essay contest. The top three winners in each class were awarded with a certificate of achievement and a Barnes and Noble gift card to pick out a new summer book at a ceremony held on Friday, May 19.
  • Congratulations to Northeast Wisconsin School of Innovation senior Rylee Schulz who was selected as a recipient of the Xometry Scholarship which will cover the cost of their tuition at NWTC for the Fall 2023 & Spring 2024 semesters.
  • Congratulations to the following Preble High School students who committed to serving our country in a branch of military: Lily Blahnik, Luke Cisneroz, Allison Linsmeier, Jenna Smith and Paul Stephenson. Luke, Jenna and Paul are all enlisted in the United States Marines. Lily is enlisted in the United States Coast Guard. Allison is enlisted in the United States Army Reserves. 
  • Congratulations to Preble High School's Austyn Heim, on finishing in 3rd place at the FFA Creed Speaking Contest. Austyn advances to the state contest held in Madison in June.
  • Congratulations to Preble High Schools' two FFA teams (Vet Science and Floriculture) that will advance to the State Career Development Events in Madison on April 27th. 
  • Congratulations to the Preble High School students who competed in the state HOSA competition. Elizabeth Kothbauer, Maisie Socha, and Ashlyn Rupp earned 5th place in Biomedical debate. Alivia Froelich and Kayla Wright earned the FAST Certification (First Aid for Severe Trauma) and competed in Medical Terminology. Breseyda Flor and Allison Lopez competed in Health Career Display. 
  • Congratulations to Preble High School senior Halle Dessart for receiving the Brian LaViolette Scholarship! Halle will be attending UW-Eau Claire next fall. The Brian LaViolette Scholarship is awarded to one graduating high school senior from the Greater Green Bay Chamber of Commerce Partners in Education school districts in Wisconsin. This $10,000 award is presented to a student who has shown exemplary achievement throughout their school career. The recipient is a student who has a thirst for knowledge, the ability to be a team player, and the desire to be a future leader.
  • Congratulations to the Preble High School finance team for taking 3rd in the Finance Bowl in Madison, WI.
  • Congratulations to Preble High School student Nevada Nelson who was named a 2023 Herb Kohl Educational Foundation Student Initiative Scholar. 
  • Congratulations to the following Preble High School FFA members who placed at their contest: 2nd place - Austyn Heim (FFA Creed Speaking), Maddy Gilson (Discussion Meet), and Preble/Edison FFA members (Quiz Bowl); 3rd place - Madi Schlag (FFA Creed Speaking). All 2nd place winners will be advancing to sectionals on April 3rd.
  • Congratulations to the 23 Preble High School students who competed at Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) Regional Competitions. Of the students who competed, 16 Preble members placed in the top five in their event, and the following nine members placed in the top three in their event, and advanced to the State FBLA competition:1st place - Grace Hazuka (Accounting 1), Brandon Rivera De Leon (Broadcast Journalism), Jacob Gerhartz (Broadcast Journalism), Parker Bosse (Data Analysis), Andreas Johnson (Marketing) and Sydnee Helgeson (Organizational Leadership); 2nd place - Sophia Young (E-business); 3rd place - Abdullah Choudhry (Intro to Business Presentation) and  Halle Dessart (Organizational Leadership).
  • Congratulations to Preble High School students Iris Delgadillo Delgadillo and Eddie Freeman for being recognized as ACE (Accepting the Challenge of Excellence) award recipients!
  • Congratulations to Preble High School students Elizabeth Kothbauer, Ashlyn Rupp, and Maisie Socha for qualifying to compete at the HOSA State Leadership Conference in April for Biomedical Debate.
  • Congratulations to the following Preble High School FFA members who placed 3rd overall in the State FFA Contest in the Wisconsin Envirothon at the Lions Camp in Rosholt, WI: Sawyer Moens, Faith VandeHei, Madison Gilson, and Madison Schlag. Preble FFA also placed 3rd in the Current Issues Category. 
  • Congratulations to the Preble High School Academic Decathlon team that recently competed in Texas in the National Academic Decathlon competition. Ian Hoppe was awarded the bronze medal in Social Studies and Sophia Young was awarded a bronze medal in Speech.
  • Congratulations to the following Preble High School Chapter of Future Business Leaders of America members who recently attended the Wisconsin FBLA State Leadership Conference and will represent Wisconsin this summer in Atlanta at FBLA nationals: Andreas Johnson (placed 2nd in Marketing) and Abdullah Choudhry (placed 8th in Intro to Business Presentation). 
  • Congratulations to the Preble High School Academic Decathlon team for taking 1st in the regional competition at UWGB. In addition to the 1st place trophy, the team also came away with 13 individual first place ribbons, 8 second place ribbons, 5 third place ribbons, and 2 Top Scholar trophies.
  • Congratulations to the Preble High School DECA team for finishing first (out of 17 schools) at the DECA leadership event "Cow Cup". 
  • Congratulations to Preble High School students Ian Hoppe, Adam Brunner, and Sean OLeary who represented Wisconsin on a new team-based quiz show. The team was named Spectrum News Challenge Champions and went home with $500 gift cards.
  • Congratulations to the two Preble High School teams who participated in the Regional Finance Bowl. The teams took 2nd and 3rd place and will be headed to the State competition in May.
  • Congratulations to the Preble High School Academic Decathlon team for taking 2nd at State and earning 1st in Math.
  • Congratulations to the following Preble High School students who competed at the SkillsUSA competition in six skilled trade events (Video Production, Team Engineering Problem Solving, Team Works, Cabinetry, Welding, and Automotive). The Team Works Construction team placed 3rd in the State.
  • Congratulations to the following students who qualified for the Civics Games State Competition in Madison in May: Preston Schenk, Ian Hoppe, Glenn Christensen, Dean Bosse, Nora Oleniczak, Carlee Perry, Parker Bosse, and Lonell Gage (Preble High School) and Allison Roever, Nina Reichstadter, Ellen Zhang, Joe Anderson, and Gwyn Castleberg (Southwest High School).   • Congratulations to Preble High School Alex Beining and Grace Hazuka who topped a record field of 21 schools and more than 115 students in Lakeland University’s ninth high school forensic accounting competition. The one-day event challenges teams of students to solve an accounting case study as they compete for the annual distinction of being the best high school accounting. The team was led by Business Education teacher Farah Brown.
  • Congratulations to the 11 Bay Link Manufacturing students who have completed or will complete their CNC certificates! Seniors from Preble High School, Southwest High School, and West High School received a certificate from NWTC and a gift from EMT International, Inc. 
  • Congratulations to the GBAPS high school teams who competed in the 2023 Social Studies Academic Competition at Southwest. Congrats to the Southwest High School team that took home first place.
  • Congratulations to Southwest High School senior Secquoia Cornelius who competed in the HOSA state competition. She placed 3rd in the Human Groth and Development event. Secquoia was also recently accepted into several Ivy League schools including Harvard, Yale, U Penn & Dartmouth, and has already received early acceptance to Vanderbilt. Sequoia is planning to study medicine. 
  • Congratulations to Southwest High School student Grace Zhang who has been named a 2023 National Merit Scholarship Program winner. The 2,500 Merit Scholar designees were chosen from a talent pool of more than 15,000 outstanding Finalists in the 2023 National Merit Scholarship Program. 
  • Congratulations to the Southwest High School DECA chapter that experienced another successful DECA competition. The competition was held February 27-March 1, 2023 in Lake Geneva, WI.  Each student competed in two written exams, role plays, and several students wrote and presented business papers.   • Congratulations to all of the Southwest High School National History Day students who participated in the regional competition at UWGB on Saturday. This year's theme was Frontiers in History: People, Places, Ideas. Moving on to the Madison state competition in April are Lily Awe, Van Lai, Ellen Zhang, Declan Algrem, Wren Algrem, Morrie Lien, Ellie Priyadarshane, Emma Szarowicz, Jacob Hanson, Addie Pytleski, Caleb Sprutles, Presley Kasten, Desiree Veeser, Michael DeClerc, Amber Gabryel, Joe Anderson, Ezra Krouth and Sam Moore.
  • Congrats to Southwest High School students Owen Klein and Grace Zhang for being named National Merit Scholarship Program Finalists for 2023! They were awarded this honor by demonstrating distinguished performance and high potential for future academic accomplishment.
  • Congratulations to Southwest High School senior Krista Anderson who was awarded The Jack Washington "Wonderful World" Scholarship.
  • Congratulations to the Southwest High School students who competed at Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) Regional Competitions including Emilio Lugardo and Echilo Vang in Business Ethics (5th Place), Javon Xiong and Tony Lor in Sports & Entertainment Management and Connor Pytleski in Organizational Leadership. Special congratulations to Natalia Canadeo for placing 2nd in Marketing. Natalia will move on to State Competitions in April.
  • Congratulations to the Southwest High School DECA team for attaining the international DECA Thrive Level award this year. The Southwest DECA chapter is one of 15 Wisconsin DECA chapters that completed three campaigns to encourage community involvement, ethical leadership, and school and community activities to promote the learning and application of marketing concepts. 
  • On November 16, more than 30 students from Southwest High School were inducted into the Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica - Yerba Mate Chapter. These students have demonstrated a passion for the Spanish language, and have maintained high academic achievement during their study of Spanish.
  • Congratulations to Southwest High School senior Grace Zhang, who was named a semifinalist of the U.S. President's Scholars Program. Inclusion in the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program is one of the highest honors bestowed upon graduating high school seniors. Scholars are selected on the basis of their accomplishments in academics, leadership, and service to school and community.
  • Congratulations to Southwest High School senior Katelyn Wisneski who signed a letter of intent to compete in lacrosse at Lewis University, an NCAA Division II school in Romeoville, Illinois. View the Press Gazette article here.
  • Congratulations to the following Southwest High School students Tony Lor, Javon Xiong, Echilo Vang, and Emilio Lugardo for making it to the quarter finals of the Finance and Investment Challenge Bowl, held on December 2nd. This event was a tournament for high school students that tests their knowledge of personal finance and economics and encouraged friendly competition. Tony Lor also won the Crowdpurr trivia event winning a cash prize. 
  • Congratulations to Southwest High School Business Education Digital Media class students who recently passed certification exams for Adobe Certified Professional Photoshop.   • Congratulations to Southwest High School students Owen Klein & Grace Zhang for being named National Merit Semifinalists. These academically talented high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,250 National Merit Scholarships worth nearly $28million that will be offered next spring. To be considered for a Merit Scholarship® award, Semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the Finalist level of the competition.
  • Congratulations to Evan Barkow from Southwest High School who took 3rd place at SkillsUSA in the Electrical division.
  • Congratulations to the following Southwest High School students for their participation in the State National History Day Competition on April 22nd: Declan Algrem, Wren Algrem, Joe Anderson, Lily Awe, Michael DeClerc, Amber Gabryel, Presley Kasten, Ezra Krouth, Van Lai, Sam Moore, Desiree Veeser, and Ellen Zhang. Ellen Zhang received the Civil Rights Prize for her documentary on the Asian American Movement. 1st alternate in the individual website category was Van Lai for his project on Media in the Vietnam War. 1st alternates in the group documentary category were Joe Anderson, Ezra Krouth, and Sam Moore for their documentary on Apollo 11. Moving on to the National Competition in College Park, Maryland in June are: Declan Algrem and Wren Algrem for their exhibit on Langston Hughes and Presley Kasten and Desiree Veeser for their documentary on Margaret Sanger.
  • On Wednesday, March 1st Southwest High School and West High School students competed in the JA Titan Business Challenge at NWTC. 23 teams competed to navigate running a simulated company in the mobile phone industry. Their company’s success depended on decisions about production, pricing, marketing, research and development (R&D), and corporate social responsibility (CSR). Congratulations to Carlyn Ama, Madison Beres, Tony Lor, Javon Xiong from Southwest and Calvin Wery and Ivan Grant from West. 
  • Congratulations to West High School student Rubi Robles for being the first student in our District to earn the Biliteracy Certificate.
  • Congratulations to West High School student Izabellah Markovic who competed in the HOSA state competition.
  • Congratulations to the West High School Academic Decathlon Team on qualifying for the State Tournament! They will compete on March 9th and 10th for the State Championship.
  • Congratulations to the West High School students who competed at Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) Regional Competitions. The West FBLA team placed 2nd in their event of Digital Video Production. Team members Calvin Wery, Savion Manyvong, and Nathaniel Lee will advance to the State competition in April.

  • Congratulations to West High School senior Jasmin Campbell for being selected as a College Board National Recognition Program awardee! Jasmin was selected for her academic achievements in school and outstanding performance on the PSAT/NMSQT®, PSAT™ 10, and/or AP® Exams. 
  • Congratulations to the following 10 West High School students who successfully completed the Tiny Earth Lab Skills Camp that ran from August 8th - August 18th: Asia Chevez, Maryah Smith, Isis Sorto Matute, Sophie Hoffman, Stacy Martinez, Sierra LeRoy, Suabnag Kong, Claire Pasterski, Fatuma Umberwa, and Olivia Vang. All 10 students earned an A and 1 college credit for their efforts. Maritza Lopez, a Tiny Earth participant from last year, earned college credit for acting as a TA (teaching assistant) in the summer camp this year. All 10 students have registered for 2 credits to conduct original research at UW-Green Bay this fall. West teachers Lisa Merkel and Bonnie Gonzales worked with UWGB and the students to make this camp happen.

  • Congratulations to West High School's FBLA team members (Digital Video Production) for advancing to State Competition last week: Calvin Wery, Savion Manyvong, and Nathaniel Lee who advanced to the FBLA State Competition that was held in Green Bay, at the KI Center on April 24. Students competed in the preliminaries and advanced to finals on Tuesday.  In the finals, they finished in 5th place for State.

  • Congratulations to Edison Middle School student Noah Swetlik who was recently selected to participate in the WSMA Middle Level State Honors Orchestra.

  • Congratulations to the following students who participated in the Miss Amazing pageant: Veda Long (Howe Elementary Community School), and Aphrodite Malone and Ariana Perez (Washington Middle School). Miss Amazing is a pageant-like event with a mission of "Providing opportunities for girls and women with disabilities across Wisconsin to build self-esteem."
  • Jackson Elementary School's Quilting Club completed 20 quilts that were blessed by Pastor Jerry from Calvary Lutheran Church and then donated to Jackson for families in need. 
  • Congratulations to Langlade Elementary School fifth-grade students Yzabella and Ella whose art was selected for a regional art competition at the Neville Museum. Ella's artwork is advancing to the state level competition in March.
  • Congratulations to the Leonardo da Vinci School for Gifted Learners Destination Imagination team that placed 2nd in the technical challenge at the Global Final competition. 
  • The First Tech Challenge Team made up of six students from Leonardo da Vinci School for Gifted Learners participated in their first qualifying event on Saturday. This rookie team competed against 27 other teams from around the state. Several teams at this event had represented Wisconsin at the world championship event in prior years. Leonardo da Vinci students, in their first match, came in 20th place. They competed in five matches in total. The robot had technical issues in three of the matches that kept them from scoring as they had planned, but in two matches, they were very competitive. 
  • Congratulations to MacArthur Elementary School 3rd grader Miriam Crowley who earned 3rd place in the Delta Kappa Gamma writing competition.
  • Congratulations to the following NWTC Tech Challenge student winners: Fernando Vallarta and Zandenn Denzel (Northeast Wisconsin School of Innovation) and Atticus Krump, Taylor Hermsen, and Savanna Salentine (Southwest High School).
  • Students from the Esports teams at Northeast Wisconsin School of Innovation, Preble High School, and Southwest High School attended the Wisconsin High School Esports Association state meet at Madison Area Technical College on Saturday, December 10. Students had the opportunity to meet and play with other students competing from around the state. Students spoke with college recruiters and met with the MATC esports team members and toured their facilities. The teams also visited and toured the State Capitol.  
  • Congratulations to Preble High School athlete Augustus Counard Ciechanowski who was the State Runner-up (2nd place) for Pole Vault with a height of 15-06.00.
  • Congratulations to Preble High School athlete Cirena Taylor Marquardt for placing 6th in the Triple Jump with a jump of 37'1" at the State track meet. 
  • Congratulations to Preble High School students Jacob Hagerty and Kaitlyn Watson who were selected as winners of a 2023 Exemplary Performance Award at the Wisconsin School Music Association State Level Solo & Ensemble at UW-Green Bay.
  • Congrats to Preble High School musicians Dylan Vandervest - drums (12), Logan Lemmens - bass guitar (12), McKian Haney - guitar (10) and Lydia Schmidt - lead vocals (11) for being selected as one of 10 finalists for ROCKONSIN, a statewide competition for garage bands grades 6-12! Bands will perform a 20 minute set on stage at the Summerfest grounds in June. The winning band and runner up will play a 40 minute concert at Summerfest on July 7 and also receive recording studio time!

  • Congratulations to the Preble High School Show Choirs for their performances at the Chocolate City Showcase in Burlington, Wisconsin. Rendezvous was awarded 1st place in its division, and Center Stage earned a bid to the finals and ended the night as 1st runner up in the Open Class. 
  • Congratulations to Preble High School athletes Ian Johnson (McHenry County Community College) and Ashley Wolfe (Oregon State) for signing national letters of intent to play college sports.
  • Congratulations to the following Preble High School students for being selected for the 2023 State Honors Music Project: Jacob Alexander, Mackay Campbell, and Meredith Stoa. More than 1,250 auditions were registered for 426 positions in five ensembles. Selection identifies a student as one of Wisconsin’s finest high school musicians. The list posted reflects the 426 students selected to participate in the 2023 WSMA High School State Honors Music Project.
  • Preble High School FFA attended the 2022 National FFA Convention, October 25-28.  As the 2022 state champion nursery/landscape team, Faith VandeHei, Libbie Pelishek, Riley Stieglitz and Haley Ellenbecker represented Wisconsin at the national level. The event included plant and tool identification, surveying and drainage practicums, landscape design, and an extensive knowledge exam. As a bronze winning team, Preble FFA took home three silver medals and one bronze medal. This is the first team from Preble to compete in the National FFA Nursery/Landscape Contest.

  • Congrats to the following Preble High School softball players for being named to the FRCC all-conference team!   •  Congratulations to Southwest High School junior Delaney King for earning the Regional Scholastic Art & Writing Competition's highest honor, a Gold Key, for her self-portrait painting. Her work is currently displayed amongst the other winners from the State of Wisconsin until March 19th. By earning a Gold Key, her painting will be transported to the national Scholastics competition, where she will compete against the best paintings from across America's high schools.

  • Congratulations to Southwest High School senior Lillian Franzen and her teammate Lauren on being overall Varsity Girls Sprint Relay Champions! They were the best of 15 teams from all over the state competing on Saturday, February 4, in Middleton. Lillian will compete at the Wisconsin Distance Championships in Cable on Feb 11 & 12. 
  • Congratulations to Southwest High School athlete Connor Pytleski on scoring his 1,000th point in basketball. Connor is the 5th Trojan to reach this milestone.
  • The Southwest High School DECA chapter is proud to announce that several of our marketing students and DECA members have achieved success in the national DECA competition, Virtual Business Challenge. This online competition allows students to make business and marketing decisions through an online simulation. The following were Wisconsin winners from Green Bay Southwest: 2nd Place - Fashion; Joseph Mincheski & Jalyssa Miller; 3rd Place - Entrepreneurship Owen TenHaken, Kemper OBrandovich, and Avery Wotruba; 3rd Place - Restaurant Brady Bohn & Miles Rauschenbach; 4th Place - Hotel Alexa Lindstrom 5th Place - Restaurant Jenson Troup & Ella VandenHouten 5th Place - Hotel Caleb Sherman.
  • Congratulations to the Southwest High School Varsity Volleyball team for winning the Regional Championship on October 22, defeating Hortonville 3 sets to 0. This is Southwest's 1st regional championship in volleyball in the last 18 years!
