Staff And School Achievements

  • Congratulations to the following buildings that had 100% completion of the October Cybersecurity Awareness learning opportunities: Aldo Leopold Community School, Chappell Elementary School, Dr. Rosa Minoka Hill School, Elmore Elementary School, John Dewey Academy of Learning, Katherine Johnson Academy of Enriched Virtual Learning, Langlade Elementary School, Lincoln Elementary School, MacArthur Elementary School, McAuliffe Elementary School, and Wequiock Elementary School.
  • Students from Aldo Leopold Community School, John Dewey Academy of Learning, Northeast Wisconsin School of Innovation, Franklin Middle School, Edison Middle School, and Washington Middle School attended the Empower leadership event. At the event, students learned about mental strength, encouragement of others, and ways to positively impact their community through participation in enrichment activities throughout the day. 
  • Chappell Elementary School raised over $3,000 to donate to the American Heart Association during the Kids Heart Challenge.
  • Congratulations to East High School Career Center Coordinator, KoBao Kong, who has been named a WEA Member Benefits and WEAC Outstanding Educator. Read more here.
  • Congratulations to East High School educator Scott Christy who was awarded the inaugural Manufacturing, Engineering, and Technology Award from The Wisconsin Business World, a program of the WMC Foundation.
  • Congratulations to East High School FACE/Culinary Arts teacher, Bailey Morse, who received a Shout-Out on the Wisconsin DPI website under CTE (Career and Technical Education).
  • Congratulations to the City Stadium Automotive Program at East High School for receiving a 2023 Lincoln Aviator, generously donated by Bergstrom Automotive.
  • The Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame unveiled a bronze bust of Curly Lambeau at East High School’s City Stadium on September 22. The bust is the first to be installed as a part of the Packers Hall of Fame’s Legacy Series. Bronze busts of Packers Hall of Famers will be placed at various schools with ties to the Packers. Curly Lambeau graduated from East High School in 1917. 
  • Congratulations to Eisenhower Elementary School and Washington Middle School for being Honorable mentions in Beanstacks 2023 Read Around Wisconsin Challenge. All Wisconsin schools had the opportunity to participate by tracking students' independent reading times through Beanstack. Washington and Eisenhower were each given $100 to use in the library for being a Winner! Thank you to our librarians for promoting a love of reading.
  • The Green Bay Elks Lodge #259 donated nearly $1,000 of winter clothing for Green Bay Area Public School students in need. Jackets, mittens, hats, snow pants, and sweatpants were dropped off at the Green Bay Area Public School District office to give to students when they need warm winter items.
  • At the July 24th Board of Education meeting, Wello Executive Natalie Bomstad and Community Mobilizer Rogelio Contreras presented a check for $10,012.36. The check represented the Wello investment in the Green Bay School District towards Farm to School programs and Mindfulness efforts for staff and students. 
  • Green Bay citySERVE supported our teachers on School Care Day back in August. More than 45 volunteers went to 19 different Green Bay Area Public Schools on August 29th and 30th to help staff prepare for the start of the school year. Volunteers contributed more than 160 hours of support in preparing caring closets, classrooms, and outdoor spaces before welcoming students on the first day of school. 
  • The Green Bay Area Public School District was recognized as a 2022 Advanced Placement Pacesetter Awardee by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction! The District was recognized at Level 3 for Preble High School and Southwest High School, meaning 10% or more of all students participated in at least one AP exam, and 60% or more of those students earned scores of 3 or above on the exams.
  • On August 9th, 2023, Green Bay Area Public Schools' Math Leadership partnered with MidSchoolMath to provide specialized training to teachers from across the country. Fourteen Green Bay teachers joined teachers from Maine, New Mexico, Washington, and Colorado for a full-day of learning about math instructional practices and leadership. The 20+ teachers will be working together throughout the year to complete the MidSchoolMath Certified Teacher Program, which will focus on increasing student learning at the middle school level. Teachers who complete the program will be sharing their learning with their colleagues during professional learning in June of 2024.
  • During Community School Coordinator week, GBAPS thanks Diana Delbecchi, the Community School Coordinator at Howe Elementary Community School for helping Howe become a thriving neighborhood hub that supports students, families, and neighbors by providing access to community supports such as academic, emotional, health, and social services.
  • On September 20, Howe Elementary Community School held a ribbon cutting for its new outdoor learning space. The Leadership Green Bay team 3 raised $12,815 dollars through months of fundraising efforts to create this gorgeous space for the Howe school community. In addition to a beautiful new outdoor learning area, the space serves as a memorial to past students and staff that were lost unexpectedly.
  • Thanks to a partnership with Leadership Green Bay, a new outdoor learning space is open at Howe Elementary Community School. The space gives students and teachers the opportunity for outdoor lessons and to engage in learning in different ways.
  • The Brown County United Way announced a $150,000 investment in the Howe Community Elementary School model, which began in 2018. The $150,000 investment will assist the scholars at Howe Community Elementary School, the residents, and families in the surrounding attendance area. 
  • King Elementary Children's Center for Engineering had the honor of receiving a $20,000 'Leap for Learning' donation on February 22 from UScellular and the Green Bay Packers for a technology makeover to improve STEM education. Green Bay Packers player AJ Dillon stopped by to celebrate with the students.
  • Congrats to Megan Rudolph, ESL teacher at Langlade Elementary School, along with Anita Lor (Hmong bilingual paraprofessional) and Kaci Butry (ML PST) for being awarded $1,880 for the Multicultural Club at Langlade.
  • Leonardo da Vinci School for Gifted Learners students presented Habitat for Humanity with a check for $23,415.43, which they raised through their PI Day 5K Run/Walk.
  • Congratulations to Lombardi Middle School teacher Mai Nu Vang who was named one of Wisconsin’s 40 Most Influential Asian American Leaders. Click here to view the article. 
  • Congratulations to MacArthur Elementary School's Brianna Griffith who was named a Future 15 Recipient and Young Professional of the Year finalist!
  • Congratulations to MacArthur Elementary School social worker Brianna Griffith, a Future 15 recipient and a finalist for the 2024 Young Professional of the Year.
  • Congratulations to Preble High School's Director of Athletics & Activities/Associate Principal, Dan Retzki who was re-elected to a 3-year term on the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Board. 
  • Congratulations to Preble High School admin Tommy Jennings who was presented with a plaque in recognition for Volunteer of the Year from the Challenge Academy! Over the past ten years, he has mentored numerous Challenge Academy cadets.
  • Congratulations to Preble High School Coach Kyle McMahon who was named Coach of the Year.
  • Congratulations to Preble High School girls Assistant Basketball Coach Holly Cappelle for being nominated in the UW-Oshkosh Hall of Fame.
  • Congratulations to Preble High School for being recognized by the Wisconsin RtI Center for foundational implementations of an equitable, multi-level system of supports. 
  • Congratulations to the School & Community Relations Department for receiving a National School Public Relations Golden Achievement Award for the November 2022 Referendum campaign. NSPRA’s Golden Achievement Award recognizes outstanding, strategic work in all aspects of school public relations, communication, marketing, and engagement.
  • Congratulations to the Southwest High School Agriscience Department for being nominated by the Northeast Wisconsin Agriscience Teachers as the Section 9 Program of the Year. There are 10 sections throughout the state, so they are the representatives from our area. Southwest High School Agriscience Teacher, Tom Sebranek has also been nominated as the Section 9 Agriscience Teacher of the Year. 
  • Congratulations to Southwest High School instructor Lauren McElrone who was nominated and won the 101 WIXX Teacher of the Month award. Mrs. McElrone was awarded with prizes from Marian University, Graystone Alehouse, Woodman's, Kolosso Toyota, Crumbl Cookies of Green Bay & Appleton, and a surprise visit from WIXX including air personnel Huggie.
  • Webster Elementary Children's Center for Integrated Arts was visited by a few Les Misérables cast members, including Wisconsin native, Kelsey Denae, from the North American tour on February 22. The cast members shared how they were cast for Les Misérables, their pathway to working on a Broadway show, and answered other questions from the students.
  • Congratulations to West High School for being chosen as the winner of the "Holiday Tree Decorating at Austin Straubel Airport" contest hosted by the GRB Arts Program. West Art teacher Annie Larsen submitted a concept for the tree, which included covering the tree with lights and sparkling, glass snowflakes created by West students and staff. As the winning concept, West is getting the opportunity to decorate the 20-foot holiday tree, along with $2,000 toward supplies. Students and staff are now in the process of creating glass snowflakes to adorn this beautiful tree that will be on display in the airport starting November 27 through early January.
  • Congratulations to West High School for being verified by the International Baccalaureate as an authorized IB World School for the Career-related Programme.
  • Congratulations to Assistive Technology Program Support Teacher Jennifer Schubring for being honored with the Joy Zabala Spirit Award! Jennifer and her team were presented the award at the Assistive Technology Industry Association conference in Orlando, Florida, for their work on "Moving Assistive Technology Forward Statewide."

Student Academic Achievements

  • East High School FFA Alumni & supporters hosted a Pancake Breakfast for 66 Agriscience students, FFA members, and East High staff in celebration of National FFA Week.
  • Congratulations to East High School DECA member Careli Navarro Castaneda for earning 2nd place overall in her event, Apparel & Accessories Marketing.
  • Congratulations to the East High School Decathlon Team for earning second place in the regional competition and will be in the state meet for the 11th consecutive year. Congratulations to the following students: Alexia Lindsley, Zola Kambandu Schilz, Lydia Hanold, Amelia Bazett Jones, Ema Schultz, Lily Craw, Greta Gartzke, Latham Griggs, Ethan Zuidmulder, and alternates Eloise Daffner and Julianna Williams. The following students also won individual awards: Lydia Hanold (1st in music), Amelia Bazett Jones (1st overall in Scholastic, 1st in Music, 2nd in Literature and Speech, and 3rd in Math and Economics), Ema Schultz (1st in Essay and 3rd in Math), Lily Craw (1st in Literature), Greta Gartzke (1st in Speech and 2nd in Music), Latham Griggs (3rd in Literature), and Ethan Zuidmulder (1st Overall in Varsity, 1st in Economics, 2nd in Math and Essay, and 3rd in Music, Art, and Social Science).
  • Congratulations to East High School, Preble High School, and Southwest High School which had students who placed at the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) Regionals on Saturday, February 3, 2024. Read more here.
  • Grounded Cafe at ADRC held a Cafeteria Wars event on February 21. Congratulations to East High School's Hannah who won Best Presentation and Preble High School's Andrew who was named Grand Champion.
  • Congratulations to the Edison Middle School FFA team for earning 1st place at the District FFA Leadership Development Events. Best of luck to the team at the Sectional FFA Leadership Development Events in March.
  • Congratulations to the Eisenhower Elementary School 3rd Grade Spanish Language Acquisition Classes for publishing two books that were chosen to move on as finalists for a National Book Challenge.
  • Congratulations to Jackson Elementary School student Armando Galicia who was named a Do Good Wisconsin January Student of the Month.
  • Congratulations to John Dewey Academy of Learning students Alanna McFarlane and Jeremiah Morales on their Challenge Academy graduation. Cadet McFarlane will be attending nursing school and Cadet Morales is enlisting in the Marines.
  • Congratulations to the following Preble High School SkillsUSA team members who placed in the Regional Competition at Fox Valley Technical College: Emma Dornbush (1st in Technical Drafting), Liv Whitney (1st in Related Technical Math), Beau Bradison (2nd place in Power Equipment Technology), Jaime Rios Leon (2nd in Related Technical Math), Forest Vandenlangenberg (2nd in Technical Drafting), and Lucky Vang (3rd Place in Automotive Technology).
  • Congratulations to Preble High School student-athlete Emma Dornbush for being featured in the Nicolet National Bank Senior Spotlight in "The Press Times" on February 18, 2024.
  • Congratulations to the Preble High School student team for earning 3rd place at the ‘Heat Up Your Future Skills Competition!’
  • For the 3rd consecutive year, the Preble High School Academic team won the regional championship. The team is ranked 10th in the state and will be competing in the state competition in March. Congratulations to Derek Arcand, Killian Arlt, Adam Brunner, Amara Coisman, Elli Johnson, Brayden Michaels, Blayke Otradovec, Alivia Whitney, Sophia Young, Coach Kendall, and Coach Hansel.
  • Congratulations to the Preble High School students who took 1st and 2nd place at the Finance Bowl. Both of these groups earned a trip to the state competition in Madison on May 15. Lake VandenLangenberg and Josh Berken were also recognized by the judges for their communication skills. 
  • Congratulations to Preble High School student Allison Linsmeier who was one of 10 to receive a Capital Credit Union scholarship through its Tom Young Educational Scholarship program. 
  • Congratulations to the following Preble High School AVID 4 students in accepting the following scholarships: Badger Boys Scholarship: Tyler Dorner and Brysen Vang each won a $1,000 scholarship. Merit Scholarship: Savannah St. Andre accepted a $100,000 scholarship to pay for her four years at Carroll University. 
  • Congratulations to the following Preble High School students who competed at the District SkillsUSA competition: Lucky Vang (1st in Automotive Service Technology), Emma Dornbush (1st in Technical Drafting), Liv Whitney (3rd in Automotive Service Technology), Teddy Vogel (3rd in Architectural Drafting), and Dean Truckey (3rd in Power Equipment Technology).
  • A rookie team of Northeast Wisconsin School of Innovation students received the Judges Award at the First Tech Challenge, a national program in which students design, build, and code robots to compete against other teams in a robotics challenge. Congratulations to Sheldon Brummette Jr., Daryl Cornelius Jr., Joseph Denil, Marte'nello Hurst, Cooper Fagre, and Serenity Maguire, who were all part of the team.
  • Congratulations to the following Southwest High School students who placed in the Wisconsin Regional Scholastic Art & Writing competition: Emberli Gadwood, Mal McNamee, Sebastian Westberg, Natalia Canadeo, and Miley Van. Emberli, Natalia, and Miley will have their work on display at the Milwaukee Art Museum beginning February 27. Sebastian's portfolio won a Gold Key Award and will continue to the National competition. 
  •  Congratulations to Southwest High School freshman Keion Vazquez who won the District 25 FFA Creed Speaking contest at Green Bay East on Thursday, January 25, and will compete in Random Lake for the Section 9 Championship on March 7. At the same contest, JoJo Giunnunzio placed 2nd in the FFA Extemporaneous contest and will also participate in the Section 9 Championship. 
  • Congratulations to Southwest High School freshman Keion Vazquez who was named Green Bay Press Gazette's inaugural Student of the Week.
  •  Congratulations to Southwest High School senior Amelia Gibbons who was awarded a $750.00 scholarship thanks to the Cellcom 2023 Scholarship program! She is one of 16 seniors from across Cellcom's service area in Wisconsin to receive the scholarship. Scholarship winners were chosen based on community involvement, academic record, potential to succeed, leadership and participation in school activities, honors, work experience and an essay on community impact. 
  • Intra City Student Council President and Southwest High School senior Viva Winkler introduced State Superintendent Dr. Underly for the State of Education Address at the Capitol on September 21, 2023. Congratulations to Viva for this amazing honor!
  • Congratulations to Southwest High School FBLA students Emerson Krings, Chloe Torres, Madison Beres, and Julia Pierquet for their participation in the Asset Builders Finance and Investment Bowl. Special congratulations to Karter Engebretson and Will Hansen who made it to the Semi-Finals of the Championship Bracket. Will Hansen also was a recipient of the Most Sportsmanlike Conduct award. 

Student Athletic And Activity Achievements

  • East High School and West High School took to the court Saturday, January 27 for the annual Silent Night fundraiser basketball games. This year, more than $2,600 was raised for the Green Bay Area Public Schools McKinney-Vento Program, which aims to remove barriers to learning for homeless children and youth in our community.
  • Congratulations to the following East High School athletes who received FRCC South Division football all-conference recognition: Kayden Fenlon (2nd team Defensive back) and Christopher Ramirez (Honorable Mention offensive line).
  • Congratulations to the following East High School soccer athletes who received Bay Conference recognition - Kevin Grijalva (1st team forward, offensive player of the year), Owen DeVillers (2nd team defense), and Shakur Habane (Honorable Mention Midfielder). 
  • Congratulations to East High School volleyball setter CJ Ross who received 2nd team Bay Conference recognition.
  • Congratulations to East High School cross country athlete Daniel Kime who received 3nd team Bay Conference recognition.
  • Congratulations to the following East/Southwest/West High School co-op wrestling team members who placed at the WIAA Regional Meet and are sectional qualifiers: Dylan Froelich (4th Place, 157 Weight Class), Avontae Martin (4th Place, 190 Weight Class), and Fontane Sifonte (4th Place, 215 Weight Class).
  • Congratulations to the following Green Bay United boy's swim team members who competed at the WIAA State Meet: Cayden DePas, Nathan Gehm, Sam Moore, and Atticus Retzak Krump.
  • Congratulations to the Green Bay United boy's swim team for taking 5th place at the WIAA Sectional Meet and to the following state qualifiers: Cayden DePas, Nathan Gehm, Sam Moore, and Atticus Retzak Krump are headed in 2 relays (200 yd free relay and 400 yd free relay). Cayden also will be swimming in 2 individual events, 50 yd free and 100 yd free.
  • Congratulations to the Green Bay United girl's swim team for taking 5th place at sectionals. The team will be competing at the state competition this weekend.
  • Congratulations to the following Green Bay United girls' swim team members who competed at the WIAA State Meet: Ivana Neverman (6th place in 200-yard Medley and 13th place in 100-yard Butterfly) and the relay team of Sieber, Schlaefer, Bucci, and Neverman took 20th in the 400-yard Freestyle Relay.
  • Congratulations to the Preble High School boy's basketball team for winning their WIAA Regional Quarterfinal game.
  • Congratulations to the following Preble High School girl's basketball players who received Fox River Classic Conference All-Conference recognition: Helena Paplham (2nd Team All-Conference) and Jada Raeder (Honorable Mention All-Conference).
  • Congratulations to Preble High School girl's wrestler Savanna Jones who qualified for the state meet (185 weight class).
  • Congratulations to the following Preble High School wrestling team members who placed at the WIAA Regional Meet and are sectional qualifiers: Maximus Davis (4th Place, 138 Weight Class), Juan Garcia (4th Place, 150 Weight Class), Blake Holly (3rd Place, 175 Weight Class), and Caleb Katers (3rd Place, 285 Weight Class).
  • Congratulations to the Preble High School girls Cross Country Team on receiving Academic All-State Recognition!
  • Congratulations to Preble High School's Show Choirs for their performance at the New London Show Choir competition. Rendezvous finished 3rd in the single-gendered division and Center Stage finished 3rd overall and earned best vocals for the competition.
  • Congratulations to Preble High School athlete Jacob Nuthals who is a nominee for Northeast Wisconsin High School Sports Awards' athlete of the year for boys cross country.
  • Congratulations to Preble High School's JV1 goalie Landin Gauthier who was recognized in the WIAA Bulletin in the Sport Report "Plus," by Official Tom Konecny for exemplary sportsmanship in the Preble JV vs. Amherst JV & Wautoma JV on September 9, 2023.
  • Congratulations to the Preble High School boys cross country team for taking 6th place at the WIAA State Meet. Special congratulations to Jacob Nuthals for taking 5th place overall.
  • Congratulations to the following Preble High School athletes who received FRCC North Division football all-conference recognition: Calvin Veriha (1st team Defensive End), Omar Sanchez-Juarez (1st team Defensive Back), Caleb Katers (2nd team Offensive Line), Anthony Torres (2nd team Inside Linebacker), Jack Neumann (Honorable mention Receiver) and Ty Gerard (Honorable mention Defensive Back).
  • Congratulations to Preble High School athlete Asia Belli who received 2nd team FRCC volleyball all-conference recognition.
  • Congratulations to the Preble High School athletes who received FRCC Cross County all-conference recognition: 1st team - Jacob Nuthals, Jesus Zavala, Killian Arlt, Benjamin Piontek, Melana Webber, Allison Buraczewski, and Gabrielle Haller; 2nd team - Marshall Willems, Emma Dornbush, and Camille Haller; Honorable Mentions - Brayden Michaels, Hannah Smith, and Sophia Smith. 
  • Congratulations to the Preble High School Boys Cross Country team who were named FRCC Champions. 
  • Congratulations to Preble High School’s Melana Webber who was named Girls Cross Country Runner of the Year
  • Congratulations to the Preble High School JV soccer team who were tournament champs in Wautoma.
  • Congratulations to the Preble High School co-op golf team for finishing in 2nd place at the WIAA Regional Meet. The team will advance to the Sectional Meet. Congratulations to Riley Wood (Preble) who shot an 81 and finished tied for 4th place at the WIAA Regional Golf Meet.
  • Congratulations to the Preble High School Girls Golf Co-op who finished in 5th place at the October 2 WIAA Regional Meet.
  • Congratulations to all the GBAPS students and bands who participated in the 39th annual Green Bay Holiday Parade! Congratulations to Preble High School's Marching Band for winning the Best Musical Entry Award.

  • Congratulations to the following Southwest High School girl's basketball players who received Fox River Classic Conference All-Conference recognition: Addie Pytleski (1st Team All-Conference & All-Conference Defensive Team) and Alex Siudzinski (2nd Team All-Conference)

  • Congratulations to Southwest High School's Emma Cunningham, who shot a 72 and finished individually in 1st place at the October 2 WIAA Golf Regional. She qualified for the WIAA Golf Sectional meet.
  • Congratulations to Southwest High School's Emma Cunningham who shot a 77 at the WIAA Regional Golf Meet and finished 2nd place.  
  • Congratulations to Southwest High School student Emma Cunningham who tied for 12th place out of 78 golfers at the State Meet.
  • Congratulations to Southwest High School senior Gail Wery who was recognized by Beck's as a 2023 WI Player with Heart athlete.
  • Congratulations to the following Southwest High School soccer athletes who received all-conference recognition: 2nd Team - Keenan Cruz (Forward), Nathan Piotrowski (Defense); Honorable Mention - Jenson Troup (Midfield)
  • Congratulations to Southwest High School student-athlete Addison Pytleski for being featured in the Nicolet National Bank Senior Spotlight in "The Press Times" on October 31, 2023.
  • Congratulations to Southwest High School athlete Morgan Stewart who is a nominee for Northeast Wisconsin High School Sports Awards' athlete of the year for girls volleyball.
  • Congratulations to Southwest High School student-athlete Alexandra Siudzinski for being featured in the Nicolet National Bank Senior Spotlight in "The Press Times" on December 9, 2023.

  • Congratulations to Washington Middle School 8th grader and athlete, Andrew Guerrero, who is the goalie for his Wisconsin United 2010 Premier Boys Team. The team has traveled the country for tournaments given their level of play. Andrew has been recruited to play in Spain in November 2024.
  • Congratulations to the following West High School athletes who received FRCC South Division football all-conference recognition: Dakotah Montez (2nd Team Wide Receiver & Defensive Back), Sam Hemery (Honorable Mention Quarterback), Carson Drefcinski (Honorable Mention Tight End), and Carter Bankes (Honorable Mention Inside Linebacker).
  • Congratulations to West High School Junior Donovan Beauchamp for breaking the West Track and field record for the 800M Run. Donovan's time was 1:58:29, breaking the previous record of 1:58:5 set in 1981.  
  • Congratulations to West High School Isaiah Becker who was named the winner of West High School's first annual Charity Chess Tournament. The Chess Tournament raised almost $100 for charity.
