Edison outdoor learning space expanded
The outdoor learning space at Edison Middle School was expanded on Friday, September 27, thanks to volunteers from American Transmission Company (ATC).
Students, staff and the ATC volunteers assembled a greenhouse in the afternoon.
Last year Edison Middle School was awarded $10,000 from ATC to construct an outdoor learning space.
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources provided an additional $8,000 for planting trees and $2,000 to work with LEAF Wisconsin to provide guidance on incorporating outdoor learning into the everyday curriculum.
The outdoor learning space currently consists of benches, trees and a native habitat area. The greenhouse is an addition to that project.
Eighth grade science teacher Scott Stromberger worked with the students and volunteers to complete this project.
“They can get a good base here of how a plant scientist works, how to grow their own food and how to take care of plants,” Mr. Stromberger said.
Thank you to ATC, the DNR and LEAF Wisconsin for making this project possible.
