Community Celebrates Superintendent Bayer

Community Celebrates Superintendent Bayer

Superintendent Vicki Bayer was celebrated at a retirement event at Preble High School on June 9, 2026.

Hundreds of fellow educators, friends, family and community members attended the event to thank Superintendent Bayer.

Board of Education President James Lyerly gave some brief remarks alongside, Sen. Tammy Baldwin representative Jennifer Garner, City of Green Bay Mayor Eric Genrich, and GBAPS Education Foundation board president and former GBAPS Board of Education president Eric Vanden Heuvel.

Garner read a letter of congratulations from Sen. Baldwin, Vanden Heuvel announced a new GBAPS Education Foundation fund in Superintendent Bayer’s name, and Mayor Genrich presented her with a key to the City of Green Bay.

Superintendent Bayer briefly spoke through tears about her time in the district and what it meant to her.

Superintendent Bayer has been a dedicated leader in the Green Bay Area Public School District for 13 years. 

She joined the district as an associate Principal at Lombardi Middle School, and she served as the first principal of Dr. Rosa Minoka-Hill School. She went on to serve the district as the Director of Student Services, Associate Superintendent, Deputy Superintendent and twice served as interim Superintendent. She was officially named Superintendent of the Green Bay Area Public School District in December 2024. 

During her 35 years in education, she was honored with several awards for her service to students and families. 

In 2025 she was recognized as Insight's Women of Influence - Education Advocate and she earned the Green Bay West Rotary - Paul Harris Fellow Award.

In her previous roles, Ms. Bayer has been awarded the National At-Risk Education Network Anthony Dallmann Jones Award for Child Advocacy, Outagamie County Exemplary Service Award, Neenah Police Department “Friend in Education” award, and Teacher of the Year.

Thank you, Superintendent Bayer, for your dedication to students, families, and the greater Green Bay community for the last 13 years.
