Interim Superintendent Bayer answers Kennedy students’ letters

Third grade students at Kennedy Elementary School recently wrote letters to Interim Superintendent Vicki Bayer as a way to practice writing skills and learned more about the future of their school in the process.

Students asked questions regarding the proposed new school, which would be built on the current Kennedy campus. In order to best answer their questions, Interim Superintendent Bayer visited their classroom to share her responses. Several questions and answers are listed below.

Third grade student: Will my teachers come to the new school with us, because we really love them?

Bayer: I’m glad you love your teachers, because we love them too. All teachers will get to come over to the new school, if they want to be there.

Third grade student: Will we get new playground equipment? Because I really like the baby swings and seesaw.

Bayer: You will get brand new playground equipment, and some students might even get to help the District design what the new playground looks like.

Third grade student: Will we still be the Wildcats?

Bayer: You will have a chance to help choose a new mascot, since more students from another school will be joining you at the new school. All of you can pick your mascot together.

Third grade student: How big will the new school be? How many students will be in the school?

Bayer: The new school will be bigger than what you currently have to accommodate students from other schools who will be joining you here. But the school will be designed so that it will feel small and easy to navigate. There will be about 550 students at the new school.

Teacher Trina Kuhnz helped to organize the activity and students in Mrs. VanRemortel's class wrote the letters.
