New West Side School Named for Starr Family
The new west side elementary school officially has a name.
The Board of Education voted to name the new west side elementary school, Starr Elementary School, named after Bart and Cherry Starr.
Bart Starr was the Green Bay Packers' quarterback who led the team to five NFL championships and the first two Super Bowls. He also served as the Packers head coach from 1975-1983. Bart was praised for his leadership qualities and exemplary character, both as a player and a person.
Bart and Cherry are known for their support of youth. They co-founded Rawhide Youth Services, an organization that helps at-risk youth. They also created the Starr Children’s Fund, an endowment to finance childhood cancer research. In addition, Bart and Cherry served as honorary chairpersons of the Vince Lombardi Cancer Foundation Golf Classic for 44 years.
We want to thank the committee who did exceptional work in developing a list of school names for the Board to choose from.

The new school is being built at the current site of Kennedy Elementary School on Green Bay’s west side thanks to community support of the November 2024 Referendum.
This new school will consolidate Kennedy and Keller Elementary Schools and a portion of MacArthur Elementary School. Kennedy and MacArthur will close at the end of the 2025-26 school year, while Keller Elementary closed at the end of the 2023-24 school year.
