Sec. Godlewski visits Martin Elementary

Teacher shows students check for library aid

Wisconsin Secretary of State Sarah Godlewski visited Martin Elementary School on April 8, 2025, as a part of her tour of public school libraries during National Library Week.

During her visit, Sec. Godlewski presented the Green Bay Area Public School District with a check for more than $1.9 million from the Wisconsin Common School Fund, which provides annual aid for schools to purchase library books and other instructional materials.

GBAPS District Library Media Coordinator Raquel Rand spoke about the impact of the Common School Fund and how this support benefits GBAPS students and libraries.

“Our librarians are able to find not only new, but high-quality books that are both relevant to the curriculum and to our student interests,” Rand said. “We have libraries that have new STEM and makerspace tools to enhance our students' learning… We have digital tools to help teach our students how to be safe online… All of this is possible because of the Common School fund. Our librarians are able to reach out and connect with our students on varying levels because they have the tools available to them.”

Sec. Godlewski finished her visit by reading a book and conducting an election activity with Martin Elementary students.
