Southwest Students Headed to Nationals

Students hold up national history day medals and smile

Several Southwest High School students are moving on to the national round of the National History Day contest after a strong showing at the state competition. The top winners from every state will compete at the University of Maryland campus this summer. The following students are headed to the National competition:

  • Sophia Glime and Nayeli Thomas for their performance on Gender Discrimination in sports.
  • Lauren Gabryel, Tryniti Mertes, Reese Rodal, and Jayana Vang for their documentary on Indigenous Boarding Schools.
  • Caitlin Mellberg, Lucia Suarez, and Jessica Trevarthen for their performance on Wisconsinite, author, and activist Zona Gale. This group also received the Wisconsin Historical Society Award.

Congratulations, students and good luck at Nationals!
