Award recipients At the June 27 Board of Education meeting, the Board of Education and District administration presented two inaugural awards to valued Green Bay Area Public School District partners. The Friend of Education Award was presented to Chris Woleske, President & CEO of Bellin Health, and Dr. Ashok Rai, President & CEO of Prevea Health. The Champion of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Award was presented to Father Ken De Groot and Sister Melanie Maczka of Casa ALBA Melanie.

The Friend of Education Award is bestowed upon an individual, organization, or group whose leadership, acts, or supports have significantly benefited the Green Bay Area Public School District, its employees, and/or students. School Board President Laura McCoy said, “Both Bellin and Prevea were of tremendous support to the Board of Education as we faced daunting decisions at a time when information and circumstances changed quickly during the COVID-19 pandemic. Their knowledge and steady guidance were extremely helpful and reassuring as we repeatedly faced trying to balance the health and educational needs of our staff and students.”

The Champion of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Award recognizes an individual, organization, or group whose leadership, acts, or support have demonstrated outstanding commitment and made significant contributions in advancing diversity, equity and inclusion within the Green Bay Area Public School District and/or greater Green Bay community. “This year, we are acknowledging two individuals for their vision, commitment, and leadership to nurture the well-being and wholesome development of all members of the Hispanic community living in the region. As founding members of Casa ALBA Melanie, Fr. De Groot and Sr. Melanie have supported the District and its students and families in many ways,” said McCoy. “The greater Green Bay community has been blessed with their servant leadership and incredible example of how to embrace and celebrate diversity, equity and inclusion.”
