Man feeding hensCongratulations to East High School for earning a $500 grant from the WI Farm Bureau Foundation, through the WI Farm Bureau's Ag in the Classroom program. The grant was awarded to support innovative core curricula initiatives that incorporate agriculture.

Zachary Markhardt of East High School said, "Green Bay East FFA plans to go out on a 'wing' and build a chicken tractor to raise laying hens outside of our high school greenhouse. While the city of Green Bay allows a maximum of four chickens, we plan on using this small flock to make a large impact in our community. Hens will be used for student-led inquiry feeding trials with the Small Animal classes and/or potential FFA Agriscience Fair projects. Eggs gathered, when not in feeding trials, will be donated to our high school's 'Eats for East' food pantry, which serves food insecure families."
