This summer, six Green Bay Area Public School District students in the special education program were employed in the Dorsch Ford auto detailing department. Students worked closely with Dorsch employees to learn about auto detailing and to practice their employability skills. To celebrate their hard work and completion of the work experience program, students received a certificate during a ceremony at Dorsch on August 2.

During the seven week program, student learned all parts of auto detailing, including engine cleaning, exterior wash, removal of contaminants, exterior detailing, and waxing. Before students could begin work, they had to complete safety training and participate in learning assessments.

Shane McDonough, work experience coordinator for Green Bay Area Public Schools, is grateful to Dorsch Ford for helping to prepare students for a post-secondary career. “Dorsch is a family-owned business, and the owners made a point to interact with the kids during the program,” said McDonough. “Our students have learned so much in seven weeks, and we are grateful to our partners at Dorsch for preparing them for a bright future.”

The Division of Vocational Rehabilitation also provided individualized services and funding for this program, and is a valued partner of the Green Bay Area Public School District.
