Ms. Lucareli receives grant check Fifth graders in Molly Lucareli’s class at Webster Elementary Children’s Center for Integrated Arts are about to have an extraordinary experience - a matinee performance of the Broadway musical WICKED at the Fox Cities Performing Arts Center! Ms. Lucareli received a $3,800 grant from The Canary Fund for her project, “The Stagedoor Experience.”

The Stagedoor Experience is an arts integration project for fifth graders. As part of the project, students in Ms. Lucareli’s class have been reading the original L. Frank Baum Wizard of Oz, doing song lyric analysis, learning about careers in theater, and will be participating in a Zoom meeting with a touring cast member from WICKED. After they see the live performance of WICKED, students will learn about costume design and create their own small Ozian Costume Model.

Ms. Lucareli was recently certified as an Arts Integration Specialist, and is so proud her students will have the opportunity to view professional theater free of cost thanks to The Canary Fund grant.

“It was our pleasure to award Webster School with funds to assist students to attend a live performance of Wicked,” said Elizabeth Meyer, board member of The Canary Fund. “I was so impressed by the thoughtful integration of English curriculum, theatre arts and technical design. The accomplished teachers at Webster have made the most of this experience.”

The Canary Fund began in 2019 to honor the life and lifelong generosity of Jim Rivett of Green Bay (1958-2018). The Canary Fund seeks to recognize the activists, visionaries and change-makers of Northeast Wisconsin who see and work to address unmet needs in area communities.

Since 2019, more than $50,000 has been granted to individuals in the 12 counties of Northeast Wisconsin who work toward making our communities a more sustainable, just and compassionate place. For more information regarding The Canary Fund grants, visit www.thecanaryfund.org
