Students working in the West libraryStudents and staff are excited over the recent renovations in the West High School Library Media Center (LMC). Modern furniture, carpeting and an open floor plan allow for a flexible learning space that supports the diverse school community and the International Baccalaureate (IB) program at West. The renovations have made the space more conducive to research, collaboration and casual presentations for students.

The West High LMC is the hub of student-led collaborative investigations for IB. The new flexible layout allows collaborative groups of all ages and fosters research for Diploma Program (DP) extended essay, IB Middle Years Program (MYP) personal project, and various other internal assessment research projects required of full IB students.

During the required IB MYP personal project, students at West investigate and create a project on the topic of their choice and write about their learning in a 2,500 word paper that is submitted for international review. The library staff assists students with investigative research for the IB DP extended essay emphasizing peer reviewed materials acquired from the library’s print collection, online databases, and interlibrary loans from university libraries. This virtual connection between libraries is augmented with field trips to the UW - Green Bay Campus and its Mary Ann Cofrin Library.
