In December 2022, Wisconsin high school students attended a HSHS St. Vincent Hospital Healthcare Bootcamp. The bootcamp for juniors and seniors interested in a career in health care was designed to showcase the various health care roles within a hospital setting while educating students about how some navigated their paths into their profession.
West High School senior Samara Brown attended the event. “I am really interested in nursing and wanted to see things in action,” said Samara. “When I think about the way I have been treated and comforted by nurses throughout my own life, I know that I want to be that for someone else.”

In addition, West has a Serious About STEM (SAS) group, an all-female science, technology, engineering and math program that works to break down barriers for female students and students of color in the science and health care fields.
