Extra Mile Award Recipients

2019-20

  • Congratulations to Edison Middle School's Maria Hernandez, who received the District's Extra Mile for Exceptional Customer Service award. A parent shared that "Maria creates a positive culture at Edison Middle School as she always welcomes people, smiles at them and gladly helps them." Thank you Maria for all you do for students, families and staff.
  • Congratulations to Edison Middle School's Erika Soto, a student learning advocate, on receiving the District's Extra Mile Award for Exemplary Customer Service. A former student recommended Erika because she builds great bonds with students and really goes the extra mile when it comes to working and trying her best.
  • Congratulations to Eisenhower Elementary School's Jose (Tony) Escandell, a student learning advocate, for receiving the District's Extra Mile Award for Exceptional Customer Service. Tony was recognized for providing extraordinary customer service, greeting staff and students with a smile, and for forming positive relationships with students who need extra support.
  • Congratulations to McAuliffe Elementary School's Randy Van Lanen, a facility technician, on receiving the District's Extra Mile Award for Exceptional Customer Service. Randy was recognized for providing extraordinary customer service, keeping McAuliffe School looking great, helping the McAuliffe PTO with its events, creating bonds with students and for having a contagious positive energy.
  • Congratulations to District Help Desk Technician Zach Allen for receiving the District's Extra Mile Award for Exceptional Customer Service. Zach helps staff, parents, and any one who contacts the Help Desk with questions regarding their technology and he does it with a smiling voice. 
  • Congratulations to McAuliffe Elementary School secretary Sarah Cruz for receiving the District's Extra Mile Award for Exceptional Customer Service. A parent said Sarah is the "absolute sweetest" and the school is lucky to have  her.
  • Congratulations to Heidi Gallagher, Production Manager of Food Services at the Auxiliary Services Building, for receiving the District's Extra Mile Award for Exceptional Customer Service. A parent nominated Heidi for being proactive, responsive, and going above and beyond to help with catering for teachers.
  • Congratulations to Beaumont Elementary School secretary Abby Gezella for receiving the District's Extra Mile Award for Exceptional Customer Service. She was nominated for "making everyone feel welcome and every student well-cared for" and for "[having] implemented several new ideas that have enhanced the building’s atmosphere and efficiency."
  • Congratulations to Aldo Leopold Community Programs Coordinator Emilie Heil for receiving the District's Extra Mile Award for Exceptional Customer Service. Emilie was nominated by a parent for doing a tremendous job of seeking out and coordinating unique and meaningful experiences for the kids of Aldo. The parent said, "she is genuine and kind and it shows in every interaction with her."
  • Congratulations to Preble High School monitor Doris Bethke for receiving the District's Extra Mile Award for Exceptional Customer Service. Doris was nominated by a parent for greeting parents and students with kindness, exhibiting positive energy, and displaying Preble Pride. 
  • Congratulations to Elmore and Langlade art teacher Kelli Vardigan for receiving the District's Extra Mile Award for Exceptional Customer Service. Kelli was nominated by a parent for pouring her heart and soul into working with students. The parent said, "Kelli makes accommodations for students and works extra hard to make sure all students feel successful in her classroom." 
  • Congratulations to Langlade Elementary School paraprofessional Dana Farra for receiving the District's Extra Mile Award for Exceptional Customer Service. Dana's nominator said she has a heart of gold, and is willing to helping with anything to assist parents, staff, volunteers and students, all while keeping a smile on her face and kindness in her attitude. Her nominator said, "Dana is a shining example of what makes Green Bay an excellent district to work and to educate our children." 
  • Congratulations to Executive Secretary of Special Education Xai Lawrence for receiving the District's Extra Mile Award for Exceptional Customer Service. Xai's nominator said she is a dedicated employee who goes out of her way for everyone. Xai exudes what is best in customer service, and makes everyone who steps through our doors feel important. 
  • Congratulations to Doty Elementary noon supervisor Kim Maes for receiving the District's Extra Mile Award for Exceptional Customer Service. Kim's nominator said she plans and executes everything from pizza parties, recess scavenger hunts, picture day and more. She also helps students who need support in reading, with their behavior or simply someone to hang out with at recess. Kim knows every child at Doty and goes above and beyond to support students and staff.
  • Congratulations to Chappell Elementary Physical Education Teacher Andrew Wehlage for receiving the District's Extra Mile Award for Exceptional Customer Service. Andrew was nominated for knowing how to make physical education fun. His nominator says he books special guests to educate kids on making healthy choices and organizes fitness events that inspire children to exercise. His passion for health and fitness evokes the same passion in his students.
  • Congratulations to Chappell Elementary International Baccalaureate (IB) Coordinator Jackie Brosteau for receiving the District's Extra Mile Award for Exceptional Customer Service. Jackie was nominated for bringing excitement and energy to Chappell on a daily basis. Her nominator says she can often be found dressed in a costume, doing a dance or creating an amazing learning activity to challenge her students. She pours her entire heart and soul into what she does, and she is very dedicated to the success of the Chappell IB program. 
  • Congratulations to Lincoln Elementary paraprofessional Nancy Strong for receiving the District's Extra Mile Award for Exceptional Customer Service. Nancy's nominator said she is a true asset to the occupational and physical therapy department in the District. Her cleverness, creativity and resourcefulness have greatly enhanced the active participation and independence of many children with disabilities.
  • Congratulations to Howe Elementary paraprofessional Toni Davis for receiving the District's Extra Mile Award for Exceptional Customer Service. Toni's nominator said she is a key person at Howe and is always going the extra mile for staff and students. She is said to be always reassuring students that they are successful and loved at school.
  • Congratulations to Northeast Wisconsin School of Innovation secretary Nellie Corona Jimenez for receiving the District's Extra Mile Award for Exceptional Customer Service. Nellie's nominator said she is compassionate and caring with all students, staff and families. Her calm demeanor has a positive impact on those who seek out her advice and guidance. Her nominator sees her as an important asset to the success of the N.E.W. School of Innovation in its first year.
  • Congratulations to Preble High School monitor Janet Barrett for receiving the District's Extra Mile Award for Exceptional Customer Service. Janet's nominator said she works tirelessly to get students to school safely in stressful conditions. 
  • Congratulations to Washington Middle School monitor Sue Tilkens for receiving the District's Extra Mile Award for Exceptional Customer Service. Sue provides extraordinary service by going above and beyond in the Washington Reset Room.   • Congratulations to Franklin Middle School Associate Principal Ashley Flowers for receiving the District's Extra Mile Award for Exceptional Customer Service. Ashley's nominator said she is focused on what is best for students at all times. Ashley meets students where they're at to feel cared for and supported in a manner that is patient and kind.
  • Congratulations to West High School Facilities Engineer David Trever for receiving the District's Extra Mile Award for Exceptional Customer Service. David's nominator said he is always ensuring that West has everything ready for training events, and is incredibly helpful in meeting unanticipated needs.
  • Congratulations to Preble High School teacher Brett Duffney for receiving the District's Extra Mile Award for Exceptional Customer Service. Brett was nominated by a student who said he is the most dedicated math teacher she's ever had, and that he is focused on helping students understand and achieve. 
  • Congratulations to Kennedy Elementary Principal Aaron Manders and paraprofessional Gayle Peot for receiving the District's Extra Mile Award for Exceptional Customer Service. Aaron was nominated for always engaging with the kids, and playing outside at recess with them almost every day. Gayle's nominator said she is the first to offer help and advice to parents, staff and students. She is phenomenal with her students in the classroom and takes time for everyone in the building.
  • Congratulations to Chappell Elementary School teacher Kelly Schweda for receiving the District's Extra Mile Award for Exceptional Customer Service. She was nominated by a parent who says she takes time out of her day to communicate with parents about their children to make sure everyone is on the same page. The parent feels blessed to have Ms. Schweda teach her children.
